Bringing Political Activism Back To Roots Music – We Know They Lied

August 18, 2019

Philadelphia, PA Aug. 2019: Steve Scott’s new video and single We Know They Lied, release date Labor Day 2019, brings political activism back to Roots Music.

We Know They Lied is a song of dissent, the song and video both tackle the abuse and devastation wrought by a corporate-duopoly disguised as political parties in the U.S. – false-wars driven by avarice and greed; a routed middle-class; and, a corrupted system of justice and inequality that is fostered by the elite: A punitive-system which is punishingly racist and regressive for nothing more than profit and control!

Steve calls it “music with a conscience!” And he asks, “What the hell happened?” Quoting the famed Marxist-Economist, Dr. Richard Wolff, he says, “In the ‘50s and ‘60s Folk, Country, Blues and Pop Music [i.e., American-Roots-Music] were the literature of opposition…the voice of the left!” Wolff goes on to say, “why not today!”

Steve believes that artists must be a voice of dissent and contribute to the resistance, “We can and must #StopTheAbuse of the American people by the forces of greed.” And, he continues, “greed ain’t good…greed sucks! The fight for equality begins at home….”

We Know They Lied: Music recorded at Rowanstown Studio Maynooth, Ireland and Tempermill Studio Detroit, Michigan. Produced by Steve Scott. Engineered by David Feeny and Tizi Scott. Steve Scott “No Love For The Common Man” – The NEW Album COMING THIS FALL

June 8, 2019

Steve Scott’s new EP “No Love For The Common Man” recorded in Dublin Ireland and Detroit Michigan: Rustbelt country – Americana at its best! “You all believe in D when D’s on TV . . . pushed block by block for all the world to see. . . .” The rapacious system of seeking lower and lower wages (called globalization) and the pathology of ever-increasing-endless-profit (called neo-liberalism) killed the great city of Detroit. Steve’s plea to the powers that be and the fleecing of the American dream: #StopTheAbuse!

On the new EP: “Wish You Well” a roots-music-manifesto of economic devastation, broken dreams, friends and loved-ones, in a forgotten American-heartland routed by greed and ravaged by drug addiction.

Also on the EP, his new single “We Know They Lied” tackles the devastation wrought by a corporate duopoly disguised as political parties in the U.S. – false wars driven by greed and avarice; a decimated middle class; and, a justice system that is of, by and for elites. A system that is racist, regressive and punitive for nothing more than profit and control! We must #StopTheAbuse of the American people, and in turn the world – the struggle begins at home!. . .

Rise (Detroit!): another power track, a people’s anthem celebrating Detroit and the love its music has given us all. One of the greatest and most proud cities on Earth shamefully hollowed out by vulture capitalism. A populace largely forgotten and left behind that still provides a legacy of music and tradition so uniquely its own, that it profoundly affects the soul of not only this country, but the world!

Finally, on the new EP No Love For The Common Man: “Livin’ On Love,” “Time Waits For No One” and “I Think About You” all explore the inward and outward fragility of the human condition within a decimated working class, to which far too many fall victim. The wrenching torment of the common folk: neglect, abuse, regret, struggle, sacrifice and loss! “There is nothing more violent than poverty!” #StopTheAbuse

THOSE TEARS I’VE CRIED hit the bullseye. The band can play. Steve Scott can sing; with the polished add that he can also write. Check it out! (George Peden – Nuts About Country)

How often do you buy an album, and find after one track that pops the senses the remaining cuts are at best filler?  On the latest release from these twang fueled players, Steve Scott Country, the album is a generous mix of radio-friendly possibilities and songs that blend well in the memory.

Main man Scott, a creative talent who writes, plays and acts has on-board a polished and honed band of tight players, and with an album slow-burning with global airplay, their just reward is the announcement nomination for the Detroit Music Awards.

The genre-hopping Scott, he calls the groove a mix of Blues, Americana and Country has a tight catalogue of 11 tracks on this now available album.

The set opens with the made-for-radio “I Think About You.”  Not the strongest tune on the album – that comes reserved for the last cut “Have You Ever Known A Soldier?” However, it bops along with all the musical ache lost love can muster. With a voice that fractures (nicely) on the chorus, the tune is sure to please Saturday revellers who prefer to kick sawdust rather than bar hang.

For those who take the time to ponder, the album does not come up short. With a tune only Randy Travis could improve Scott mellows on a tale of age and reflection, “Halo.” Given the tune is introspective and sober, the care in the writing shows Steve Scott has abilities with a pen.

No ink comes wasted on another cut, the powered ballad of hope and continued romance, “Don’t Say You’ll Walk Away”. The tune, which enjoys some neat guitar parts, is a perfect meld of harmony and sentiment. As such it wins an approval nod from this listener.

Another crafted tune is the final track.  With a strong marriage of voice, writing and patriotism, all the elements align on the honored ideals of the uniform on “Have You Ever Known A Soldier?” The tune paints its red, white and blue need to remember anew serving men and women, those who do their country proud.

Overall, this album hit the bullseye.

The band can play. Steve Scott can sing, with the polished add he can also write. Check it out.
